Sire Lion King
The Lion King is Out of the Pio Mare By Lad (Watson’s horse)
Her name –
Named after a sacred megalithic site (2000 – 3000 BC) in Ireland where Queen Maeve’s tomb is said to be. It is a site of great renown on par with Newgrange in it’s accurate celestial orientations and intricate design.
Carrowkeel was owned by a well known Irish Traveller, Boxer Tom who we understand refused over $37.000.00 for her for her at the Ballanisloe horse fair in 2003.
At that time she was in foal to his good stallion, Boxer Tom’s Small Horse and the foal was eagerly awaited by the travelers.
As often is the case in the traveler community circumstances changed and the mare was sold. We purchased her from Clononeen farm in Ireland.
The Lion King’s original breeder visited the farm in Ireland where Carrowkeel was being kept and commented that she produced like the Pio mare (known in the US as the PO mare dam of the Lion King).
The travelers were persisted for months making us offers to purchase her.
She is one of the heaviest mares in the breed with a tremendous long mane and tail that drags on the ground.
Carrowkeel was bred in Ireland to a remarkable stallion, Clononeen Brian Boru. Please see her colt’s page Donnough for details on this respected horse.
She is the lead mare of our herd, the invisible leader.
Gentle as rain and kind as sunshine Keela is a mare you just can’t get enough of. Folks just want to be around her, in some magical way she makes you feel good no matter what is on your heart.
Gifted in healing work, she has trained our facilitators to work with horses extraordinary, intuitive ways. The ever patient but firm teacher she inspires all of us to be our best.
Mums, as she is affectionately called at home is Marisa’s mare, the two of them share a deep companionship and are never far from each other.
